Part of being an entrepreneur means constantly learning and finding new ways to grow in—and beyond—business. While courses and other resources can be great, we’ll also remind ourselves that reading a book is still a form of education—you don’t have to buy a course, masterclass, or coach to learn.
It really can be as simple as picking up a good book and reading for a bit.
Books to Read As a Creative Entrepreneur
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again (and again): you have to continue learning as a business owner and creative—even if you’re a master of your craft, there is room to grow and learn.
It’s how my copywriting business has grown to what it is today—I’ve always focused on learning and educating myself. While sometimes I learned from courses and masterclasses, other times I just picked up a new book (or reread an old one).
Books don’t have to be specific to your niche or business to be impactful, and you don’t have to implement everything you learn. However, having the information available to you means it’s available to your clients—and to future you.
Here are some books I recommend you read as a creative entrepreneur:
Atomic Habits by James Clear
If you want to learn how to build positive habits inside (and outside) your business, Atomic Habits is your go-to read. His points are backed by scientific research, and you know how much I appreciate data-based strategies (if you didn’t notice it from my constant mentions of neuromarketing).
Plus, the book provides specific examples and insights on how to use the concepts to create better products and a more effective business, so there’s no harm in adding it to your TBR.
Made to Stick by Chip and Dan Heath
If you struggle to read nonfiction, this book is for you (it’s also for you if you don’t, but it is easy to read and understand, making it a good fit for all). Made to Stick: Why Some Ideas Survive, and Others Die is a book dedicated to revealing the “anatomy of ideas that stick and explain ways to make ideas stickier.”
This is the book to read when you want to build a brand, create content, or simply convey a memorable message to your audience.
The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel
True to my years in finance, it’s one of the things I’m passionate about sharing with literally anyone and everyone I know (who wants to know). Making more money is great, but what you do with it matters so much more.
The Psychology of Money shares the different ways people think about money—and how to get a better sense of it.
What’s Next? An Honorable Mention…
Did you know I love to journal? It’s one of my favorite routines to help settle my mind and clarify my goals (among other things)—this brings me to my honorable mention, Go Be Kind: 28 ½ Adventures Guaranteed to Make You Happier, by Leon Logothetis.
A guided journal and activity, the book takes you through “adventures” designed to help you look deep inside yourself and potentially step out of your comfort zone. It’s truly one of those you have to experience to understand—and if you can, you should (I did).
Since I’ve shared mine, I’d love to hear yours. What’s a book that changed the way you think or shifted your perspective of your business? What’s a book you simply enjoyed reading? Let me know in the comments below (or head over to Instagram, I’d love to connect).
